On Tuesday we will be hosting a fundraiser like nothing else Siena College has participated in before! Our inspirational and generous hearted Ms. Pelle has volunteered to SHAVE HER GLORIOUS HAIR with ALL donations going to support the women of Kopanang!
In Ms. Pelle's words: It has long been something of a personal mantra that women need three things in their lives: education, independence, and sunscreen. In my time at Siena, it has been a privilege to learn about how instrumental the Kopanang Project in South Africa has been in ensuring women have access to these first two. They support literacy and numeracy programs for children and adults, pathways for professional upskilling, and avenues to allow for women's art and creativity to support themselves and their communities. Their ethos of being a blessing to one's community resonates deeply. The last item – sunscreen – might seem of lesser importance, but anyone who's ever had a shaved head knows just how important it in fact is.
I'm choosing to shave my head in support of Kopanang's journey, resilience, and achievements! We are encouraging all staff and students to generously support this act of solidarity.
Please give generously!
